Today was my last day at LPCHS. I was able to set up a ride along with animal control to see another aspect of the Humane Society. I learned a lot about what their job actually is and I was shown the various instruments used by patrol. The ride along was fun and pretty laid back. Turns out most of patrol is confronting owners who leave their dogs tied up on Main St. and generally making sure the various animals of Durango are safe and in responsible hands.
Since the spay and neuter clinic I have continued to assist ken in his daily routine. Most of our day is spent getting the dogs outside for some fresh air and some social skills. There are usually between 3-7 dogs out in the yard at a times so the dog selection is crucial to ensure peaceful experiences for the dogs and for us. It has been interesting spending so much time with the dogs and being able to understand their personalities. Other than that I have been helping out with adoptions, helping wash animals, walking dogs, and taking pictures. Looking back on my time at the shelter I can say I am satisfied with my choice to intern at a non profit where the help is needed.
